The Japanese Government (MEXT) offers fully funded undergraduate scholarships to international students who wish to pursue higher education in Japan. For the 2026 intake under the Embassy Recommendation track, students can apply to study in specific fields under Social Sciences, Humanities, or Natural Sciences.

Fields of Study

Applicants must choose one of the following major fields:

1. Social Sciences and Humanities

  • Humanities A (Excluding Economics and Business):

    • Law

    • Politics

    • Pedagogy

    • Sociology

    • Literature

    • History

    • Japanese Language

    • Other related fields

  • Humanities B:

    • Economics

    • Business Administration

    • Related fields (Accounting, Financial Economics, etc.)

2. Natural Sciences

  • Natural Sciences A:

    • Science: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry

    • Engineering:

      • Electrical & Electronic Studies: Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering

      • Mechanical Studies: Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture

      • Civil Engineering & Architecture: Civil Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering

      • Chemical Studies: Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Textile Engineering

    • Other Fields: Metallurgical Engineering, Mining, Maritime Engineering, Biotechnology

  • Natural Sciences B:

    • Agriculture-Related Fields: Agriculture, Agricultural Chemistry, Engineering, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Food Science, Fisheries

    • Health Sciences: Pharmacy, Hygienics, Nursing

    • Biology

  • Natural Sciences C:

    • Medical Fields: Medicine, Dentistry

Note: Artistic fields including music and practical arts are NOT eligible under this scholarship.

Scholarship Duration

  • Standard Programs: 5 years (April 2026 – March 2031), including a one-year Japanese language preparatory course.

  • Extended Programs (Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Six-Year Pharmacy): 7 years (until March 2033).

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the MEXT 2026 Undergraduate Scholarship:

  • You must be a national of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.

  • You must be born on or after April 2, 2001.

  • Must have completed 12 years of school education (or expected to by March 2026).

  • No prior Japanese language knowledge required (language course included).

  • Must be physically and mentally fit.

  • Strong academic record.

  • Active involvement in extracurricular or social activities is a plus.

  • Must arrive in Japan between April 1–7, 2026.

  • Must be able to obtain a Student Visa for Japan.

Important Notes:

  • Documents must be printed on A4 paper and attached with a paper clip.

  • Do not include additional documents beyond those required.

  • Documents will not be returned after submission.

  2. Fill out and print the application form and all documents on A4 paper.

  3. Send your application to the designated embassy/consulate office.
