Overview

The RISE Summer Internship Program 2026, funded by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), offers exceptional undergraduate students the opportunity to undertake research internships at leading universities and research institutions across Germany. The program connects students from North America, the United Kingdom, and Ireland with German PhD students for collaborative research in science and engineering disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the DAAD RISE Internship 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be undergraduate students who will have completed at least two years of their degree by the start of the internship.

  • Must be enrolled in one of the following or related fields:
    Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Earth Sciences.

  • Must be studying at an accredited university or college in North America, the United Kingdom, or Ireland.

  • German language proficiency is not required; the working language is English. However, basic knowledge of German may be beneficial for daily life.

  • Must fulfill any additional project-specific requirements listed in the internship database.

Financial Benefits

Successful applicants will receive a fully funded scholarship package, which includes:

  • Monthly stipend: €992 (calculated on a daily basis if the stay is shorter than 23 days per month).

  • Health, accident, and liability insurance provided by DAAD.

  • International travel allowance to cover round-trip flight expenses.

  • Travel grant of €160 to attend the two-day RISE Germany Meeting in Heidelberg.

  • Access to top-tier research laboratories and institutions across Germany.

  • Possibility of virtual internships, depending on project availability.
